How to use this THE FINALS ping test
Start with a short connection check while the game is idle. Keep this browser visible during the measurement and note whether downloads, cloud backups or streams are active. The result describes this device's HTTP path to Cloudflare. It cannot inspect your match, read the game overlay or contact a private game session.
Next, record what happened inside THE FINALS: the warning icon, session type, selected region if shown, approximate time and any reported in-game latency. A browser result and an in-game result are separate observations. A stable browser measurement helps establish a comparison; it does not establish that every route or game server was stable.
Use the warning selector to choose the next check. For the measurement details, read how our tests work. For other activities on the same connection, our internet speed test supplies a separate throughput baseline.
Start with the warning icon you actually see
Embark's official warning-icon guide distinguishes packet loss, server performance, high latency, high jitter, client performance and shader stutter. Select the matching label rather than treating every hitch as high ping.
A useful note includes when the warning began and whether it appeared continuously or only at particular moments. If several icons appear, record each rather than forcing the incident into one category. If no icon appears, describe the symptom in ordinary terms: delayed input, a frozen picture, a return to the lobby or another repeatable event.
The selector's suggestions are investigation steps, not an automated diagnosis. Keep the exact icon and any error message with your session notes so a later comparison remains meaningful.
Compare a solo session with the same party
Embark's high-ping guidance explains that the party leader's location affects the party's matchmaking region. Check the current region or preferred-region setting before comparing sessions; wording and menu locations can change.
- Record a solo session using your usual connection and region preference.
- Join the usual party and note who leads it and the approximate region shown.
- Keep the device, connection type and household activity as similar as practical.
- Record the in-game observation separately from any browser baseline.
- Repeat the comparison if one unusual match could explain the difference.
A party-only difference suggests something worth investigating about those sessions. It does not identify a faulty friend, prove an ISP problem or establish a permanent server location. Report the comparison with its context rather than reducing it to one score.
Make a controlled home-network comparison
Choose one change at a time. If practical, compare Ethernet with the same device on Wi-Fi. Alternatively, repeat the observation near the access point, or pause one large transfer that you control. Preserve the original result before changing anything, and note the start time of each run.
A difference after pausing a backup is a useful clue, but the game may also have placed you in another match. Repeat the comparison before attributing the improvement to a single cause. Avoid resetting equipment or changing several settings together, because that makes the result difficult to interpret.
Our packet loss and jitter tool offers another clearly labelled network observation. Its relay or HTTP path is separate from the game path. The server ping test can also compare browser-accessible destinations without claiming to measure this match.
Keep network delay separate from local performance
Record the game's warning, any displayed client FPS and what your character or picture did. If the picture hitches while a connection baseline stays similar, investigate the client observation as well as the network. Conversely, smooth rendering does not establish that the game connection has no delay. These measurements answer different questions.
Illustrative example: one player records a browser baseline of 24 ms before both sessions, but the party session shows a different region and feels delayed. That comparison supports checking the party/session conditions. It does not mean the game's ping was 24 ms, and the invented numbers are not a recommended threshold.
For another shooter-specific workflow, see Valorant ping testing or Helldivers 2 connection checks. Keep each game's observations in its own session record.
Build a useful support record
Keep the platform, approximate country or region, solo/party context, party-leader context, incident time with time zone, warning labels and any exact error message. Add the specific comparison you tried and its outcome. Separate observations from guesses: “the issue began after joining this party” is more useful than an unsupported claim that a provider throttled the game.
Review your notes before sharing them through official support. Remove account identifiers, private addresses, invite codes and unrelated personal details. The worksheet on this page is intended for your own observations; it does not submit a support ticket or read information from THE FINALS.
