Introduction
At Instant Speed Test (“we,” “our,” or “us”), we are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring transparency about how your data is handled when you use our website at instantspeedtest.net. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have regarding your data.
This policy explains how site services handle information. Optional Google Analytics stays off unless you allow it. You can use the site and its speed tests without enabling Analytics.
Information We Collect
Information Collected Automatically
When you visit our website or run a speed test, certain information is collected automatically to ensure the service functions correctly and to improve your experience:
- IP Address — Received by hosting, network and security providers to deliver requests and protect the service. The test can display connection information in your browser. Provider processing and operational logs are separate from the optional local history described below.
- Browser Type & Version — Helps us optimize the website for different browsers and troubleshoot compatibility issues.
- Device Type & Operating System — Allows us to deliver a responsive experience across desktops, tablets, and mobile devices.
- Approximate Location (Country/Region) — May be inferred from your IP address and displayed as connection context. It does not guarantee a geographically nearest testing server. New local-history records and shared-result links exclude this location information.
- Referring URL (optional Analytics) — With Analytics permission, helps explain how visitors found our website, such as a search engine or external link.
- Pages Visited & Time Spent (optional Analytics) — Measured after Analytics permission to help improve our pages.
Speed Test Data
When you run a speed test on our website, the following data is generated:
- Download Speed — The rate at which data is transferred from the server to your device.
- Upload Speed — The rate at which data is transferred from your device to the server.
- Ping (Latency) — The time it takes for a small data packet to travel to the server and back.
- Jitter — The variation in ping response times over the duration of the test.
Important: The speed-test application displays individual measurements in your browser and does not submit a test-result record to our WordPress database. Test providers receive the underlying measurement traffic and connection information. Optional local history, exports and links are explained below.
Information You Provide Voluntarily
If you choose to contact us through our contact form or consultation booking form, we collect the following information that you voluntarily provide:
- Name
- Email address
- Phone number or WhatsApp number (if provided)
- Subject or service of interest
- Message content or project description
- Budget range (if provided via consultation form)
This information is collected solely to respond to your inquiry, provide the requested service, or schedule a consultation. We do not use this information for any other purpose without your explicit consent.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information described above for the following purposes:
| Purpose | Data Used | Legal Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Delivering speed test results | IP address and connection context | Legitimate interest |
| Improving website content and usability with Analytics | Consented browser/device and page-use information | Consent |
| Responding to contact forms | Name, email, message | Consent |
| Scheduling consultations | Name, email, phone, project details | Consent |
| Preventing spam & abuse | reCAPTCHA tokens, IP address | Legitimate interest |
| Website analytics | Consented page views, device/browser information and tool interactions, using pseudonymous identifiers | Consent |
Optional Local History, Downloads and Sharing
The homepage offers an explicit Save this completed test action. It keeps up to 30 completed results in this browser under ist_local_history_v1, with test times, measured values, method and your selected connection/setup labels. New results are not automatically added to this history. These saved records exclude IP address, location, ISP and account information. They remain until you delete saved history, clear this site’s browser data or they are replaced by newer results beyond the 30-result limit.
CSV exports and support reports are created on your device when you request them. A file includes your saved measurements and labels; it is not sent to support automatically. Review it before sharing. Deleting local history does not delete downloaded files. If browser storage is unavailable, any newly saved results remain for this visit only. Older versions may have stored browser results under ist_results; the new history control does not silently migrate or remove those older records. Clear this site’s browser data to remove an older stored copy.
New shared-result links omit IP address, ISP and location. They encode the selected result values and time in the link; encoding is not encryption, and anyone with the link can read those values. Older links may include ISP and approximate location. A shared snapshot is user-controlled information, not a verified measurement certificate.
Cloudflare Speed Testing Infrastructure
The browser test sends HTTP measurement requests directly to Cloudflare endpoints. Cloudflare receives your public IP address and request/connection information when handling that traffic. Routing determines the endpoint used; this is not a guarantee of the geographically nearest server.
Our application does not create a WordPress result record from a completed speed test. That statement does not cover the independent processing or retention performed by Cloudflare, hosting or security services. We do not promise that providers erase request information as soon as a test ends. See Cloudflare’s Privacy Policy for its processing practices.
Cloudflare also supplies delivery, security and performance services. The Google Analytics preference described below controls Google Analytics; it does not turn off all requests to other service providers.
Cookies & Tracking Technologies
Google Analytics and your choice
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand visits, referrals, pages viewed and interactions with our tools. It loads only after you allow Analytics. Google may process connection information and use Analytics cookies to distinguish browsers and sessions. This is not a count of everyone who visits: visitors who decline Analytics, use a browser privacy signal or block measurement are excluded.
For the homepage speed test and supported diagnostic tools, consented interaction events indicate a test start, completion, stop or failure. The camera bandwidth calculator and guided slow-internet troubleshooter can also count an intentional start and completion. With Analytics allowed, saving or deleting local history, requesting a support-report/CSV download and downloading a blank comparison worksheet can also be counted by action type and tool name. These custom events add only the tool name and event type, without speed readings, camera inputs, troubleshooting answers, test results or form contents. Analytics also attaches standard page and device context. The Analytics web stream is configured to redact values of the share and result query parameters from supported URL event fields.
Choose Allow analytics or Reject analytics, or reopen Analytics privacy settings in the footer at any time. We remember your choice for up to 180 days. Global Privacy Control (GPC) and Do Not Track (DNT) signals keep Analytics off. Withdrawing permission disables Analytics, clears accessible Analytics cookies and reloads the page to stop its previously loaded scripts. It does not erase data already received by Google.

Cookies We Use
Our website uses a minimal number of cookies to ensure proper functionality:
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare (__cf_bm) | Bot detection & security | 30 minutes | Necessary |
| reCAPTCHA (_GRECAPTCHA) | Spam protection after separate form-verification permission | Set by Google | Optional service for form submission |
| WordPress (wp_*) | Session management (admin only) | Session | Necessary |
Analytics preference (ist_privacy_v1): saves your choice for up to 180 days; it is required to remember that choice. Google Analytics (_ga and _ga_*): optional cookies used after permission to distinguish browsers and sessions; expiry depends on the Analytics configuration and browser. Browser restrictions can shorten cookie lifetimes.
Google advertising services may also appear on this site. Advertising privacy controls are presented separately by Google when available. The Analytics choice does not grant advertising permission or determine whether advertisements are displayed.
Google reCAPTCHA v3
Our forms use Google reCAPTCHA to help prevent spam. When you submit a protected form, we ask separately before loading Google verification for that page. The service may send connection, device and interaction information to Google. Your Analytics choice remains separate. If you decline verification, use the contact email shown on the site.
Google reCAPTCHA is subject to Google’s Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
Third-Party Services
We use a limited number of third-party services to operate our website. Each service has its own privacy policy governing data handling:
| Service | Purpose | Data Shared |
|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare | Speed testing, CDN, security and site performance analytics | IP address and request/connection information |
| Formspree | Contact & consultation form processing | Form submission data |
| Google reCAPTCHA | Spam & bot protection | Device & interaction data |
| Google Analytics 4 | Consented site-use measurement | Page views, referrals, device/browser and interaction information; pseudonymous identifiers |
| Google advertising services | Advertisements and separate advertising privacy controls | Handled according to Google’s advertising choices and policies |
| Google Fonts | Typography (Outfit font) | IP address (for font delivery) |
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party for marketing or advertising purposes.
Data Retention
We retain your information only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purpose for which it was collected:
- Speed test data — The speed-test application does not submit a result record to our WordPress database. This does not cover provider request logs or information you submit in a message or share link. Optional local history remains in your browser as described above; files you download are managed on your device.
- Contact form submissions — Retained in our email for up to 12 months, then deleted unless an ongoing business relationship exists.
- Consultation booking data — Retained for up to 12 months or until the project is completed, whichever is later.
- Server and provider logs — Hosting, CDN and security services may retain operational information under their own service settings and policies. This page does not promise that those records are deleted when a test ends.
- Newsletter subscriptions — Retained until you unsubscribe.
