Destiny 2 Ping Test

Compare browser HTTP response times to AWS regions before you play. These are regional estimates, not connections to the game’s match servers. Confirm actual ping and packet loss with in-game telemetry.

Test Regional HTTP Timing ↓
Ready — press Start Test for a bounded regional HTTP sample

Method: three HTTP probes per AWS region, up to six requests at once, with a 2.5-second timeout. Rejected and timed-out requests show Unavailable. Opaque browser responses hide HTTP status; timings can include DNS, TLS and server work. This does not test the actual game server or UDP packet loss.

Internet Speed for Destiny 2 — The Ping Guide for Trials Flawless

Destiny 2 uses a genuinely different network model from every other game on this site — Bungie has publicly confirmed it's a hybrid of peer-to-peer connections between players and a dedicated "physics host" server. Combat damage is sampled at 30Hz by that dedicated host, while player clients broadcast movement directly to each other at up to 40Hz on PC. That means your connection to Bungie's regional servers is only part of the picture — your direct connection quality to the other players in your match matters too, in a way this test alone can't fully capture. Test your baseline to Bungie's regional infrastructure above, or run a full check at instantspeedtest.net.

Destiny 2 Network Requirements — By Competitive Tier

The gameplay thresholds below are informal troubleshooting examples, not official requirements or measurements of the game’s network.

Why Destiny 2's Hybrid Netcode Makes Ping Testing More Complicated

Bungie built this hybrid model specifically to let players stumble into each other seamlessly across a shared open world without traditional matchmaking lobbies — the peer-to-peer layer keeps player-to-player movement responsive, while moving physics hosting to a dedicated server (unlike the original Destiny) fixed the host-migration problems that used to break sessions when the hosting player disconnected. The tradeoff is that a standard region ping test, useful for confirming your connection to Bungie's own infrastructure, doesn't capture your direct peer connection quality to whoever you're matched against — that varies match to match based on their location and ISP, not just yours. Independent testing has found Destiny 2's actual measured input delay holds up well against dedicated-server shooters despite this added complexity, but it's worth understanding that "good ping to the region" and "good connection to your specific lobby" aren't quite the same guarantee here as they are in a pure client-server game. See our full ping guide for how this compares across other titles.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Destiny 2 use dedicated servers or peer-to-peer?

Both, by Bungie's own design — it's a genuine hybrid. Player movement and moment-to-moment interaction happen over direct peer-to-peer connections between clients, while a dedicated "physics host" server (not another player's machine, unlike the original Destiny) handles combat damage sampling at 30Hz. This was a deliberate architecture choice to support Destiny's seamless shared-world design.

Why does my Destiny 2 connection feel different match to match even with the same ping to the region?

Because of the peer-to-peer layer, your actual in-match experience partly depends on your direct connection to the specific players you're matched with — not just your ping to Bungie's server. Two matches with identical regional ping can feel different if one opponent has a much worse connection than the other, since that affects the peer-to-peer side of the equation in a way a standard server ping test can't fully predict.
