Internet Speed for CS2 — The Ping Guide for Global Elite
Counter-Strike 2 runs on Valve's own matchmaking infrastructure, and unlike some competitors, Valve deliberately locked every official and third-party server — including FACEIT, which briefly ran 128-tick — to a hardcoded 64Hz. Instead of chasing a higher tick rate, Valve built a "subtick" system that timestamps your inputs precisely rather than snapping them to the next server update. That shifts the burden back onto your connection: subtick removes tick-related imprecision, but it can't remove network latency. Test your baseline above, or run a full check at instantspeedtest.net.

| Rank Tier | Usable Ping | Competitive Ping | Jitter Max | Packet Loss |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Legacy Silver – Master Guardian | Under 90ms | Under 60ms | Under 30ms | Under 2% |
| Premier Grey – Blue | Under 60ms | Under 40ms | Under 20ms | Under 1% |
| Premier Purple – Red | Under 40ms | Under 25ms | Under 10ms | Under 1% |
| Premier Elite / FACEIT 10 | Under 25ms | Under 15ms | Under 5ms | 0% |
Why CS2's Subtick System Doesn't Make Ping Less Important
Every CS2 server — official Valve matchmaking, Premier, and even FACEIT — runs at a hardcoded 64Hz, updating the game state every 15.625ms. Valve's own engineers have stated they won't raise this to 128Hz, citing accessibility for lower-end PCs, and instead built subtick to timestamp exactly when you clicked, moved, or threw a grenade, rather than rounding it to the next tick boundary. This measurably improves consistency compared to CS:GO's old 64-tick servers — but subtick only fixes imprecision that happens on the server side, between ticks. It does nothing to speed up the trip your input takes to reach that server in the first place. A shot fired with perfect subtick accuracy at 80ms ping still arrives 80ms later than one fired at 15ms — the server just registers the exact moment more fairly once it gets there. You can monitor this yourself in Settings → Game → Telemetry, where CS2 now shows live ping and packet loss directly, replacing the old net_graph command. See our full ping guide for how this compares across other titles.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is CS2's subtick system as good as a real 128-tick server?
For most players, yes — subtick's precise input timestamping closes most of the gap that used to exist between CS:GO's 64-tick and 128-tick servers. Some professional players have reported it still feels slightly different from true 128-tick FACEIT servers in fast-paced peeking scenarios, but the consensus is that subtick brings 64-tick CS2 noticeably closer to the old 128-tick experience than CS:GO's 64-tick ever was.
What ping is good enough for CS2 Premier?
Under 40ms is a solid target once you're consistently reaching Purple-and-above Premier ratings, and under 25ms matters more at Elite-level play, where duels are frequently decided by fractions of a second. Below Blue rating, ping under 60ms is rarely the limiting factor — aim consistency and game sense matter far more at that stage than shaving off another 10-15ms.
